Painted Crashed Escape Pod for Star Wars Legion

Painted Crashed Escape Pod for Star Wars Legion

This was a fantastic model to paint;  I acquired it with the base mostly done (the grass was in place and the rocks painted) but little else.

Wet Blending the Hull

Something I’ve been trying to do more often is to introduce variation in base colours early-on in a paint job.  In this case I attempted to add some variation in lighting to the base colour by wet blending from light to dark as I applied the base coat.

This worked quite well, but as usual I should have pushed the contrast between light and dark more.

Enhancing the Base

I gave the rocky areas a bit of extra TLC which quickly improved their overall look.  Rocks can easily be improved by giving them some shades of browns, greens and reds; this can be done with washes, before adding layers of dry-brushing.  This gives them subtle tones.

I also added some extra scorched rocks that looked like they have been ejected from the impact site, and painted a scorched look around the edge of the escape pod.

“Battle Damage” Decals

The escape pod gave me an ideal an opportunity to try out some new Battle Damage Decals that I’ve been working on (and now sell on eBay)

I was really pleased with the overall affect and how easy they were to apply. The decals offer two main benefits:

– They save time (when doing a batch of decals)

– They  give predicable results

You can see the decals in the photos later on in this post.
