Rebel Veterans and 1.4 FD Laser Cannon for Star Wars Legion

A Flavour of Hoth

I painted-up these two Star Wars legion expansions as commision work.  The request was for them to be snow themed soldiers like the Rebels fighting on Hoth in the Empire Strikes Back.

Testing Contrast Paints

I wanted to experiment with Games Workshop’s contrast paints to see if I could use them to speed-up the painting process whilst keeping up the quality of the painting. The hoth colour scheme is a natural place to start for testing contrast paints because a colour scheme that is mostly  white & grey won’t need much in the way of highlighting – contrast paints tend to darken the colours and add shade they are used on, but don’t actually “add” any highlights; highlights become apparent because surrounding areas get darker in comparison.

My verdict on this Contrast paints test

I was very pleased with the end results, to the point that I was sad to sell the models! The contrast paints did allow me to paint the trooper’s uniforms very quickly.  In this case though, I am not sure how much they added compared to just using a mid-grey wash.   (It would be necessary to make such a wash using a flow improved so it flowed like contrast paints).
